Artist Statement

My name is Logan Fredericksen. I am a Digital Arts major at the University of Tampa. I have always had a passion for art, but while taking animation classes semester, it has become a passion of mine. I am really interested in 2D and 3D. I find that even though they are different, I enjoy using them equally. Since some of my strengths include being detail oriented, problem solving, and organization, I can apply these into my art to make the project stronger.

Final Dialoge

I had a lot of fun creating this project. Monsters Inc. has always been one of my favorite movies, so I wanted to do a cartoon version of the 3D characters. I thought this project was very challenging and it was extremely time consuming but I think that it turned out pretty cute. I found it very challenging to keep track of all the elements when the whole body moved. Also, the coloring took many, many hours.

Text Media

Overall with this project, I really enjoyed working in After Effects especially with the conformity of technology and creativity. Scooby Doo was always one of my favorite shows as a kid and I wanted to do the theme song because it is a perfect fit for a text media project. Even though it was a lot of fun, I had a huge error with saving my file. When attempting to open my file, After Effects gave me several error messages and unfortunately I had to redo the entire project. Through the redo of the entire project, I became even more familiar with After Effects. This made the redo much faster than my original file and I feel extremely comfortable using any technique within the software.

Weight Lifting

(turn in 1) I enjoyed this assignment. My witch character represents a very lazy witch who doesn't want to lift her cauldron and then gives up after two attempts to lift it. I enjoyed working in Harmony again because it's easy to use and it's very helpful to be able to move the drawings or certain parts of the drawings. The movements to being able not to lift the object by the handles was difficult because it was difficult finding an exact reference to what I was looking for.

Walk Cycle

I really enjoyed working in Harmony. My inspiration was from Toy Story, so I drew a walking cycle of Woody's general shape. I found this project quite difficult to do. It was tough to remember which leg/arm you were on and to keep track of which layer each drawing was on. Even though it was extremely easy to mess up, the onionskin effect was worth it. Also, the in-betweens adds a lot of smoothness to the overall walk. I believe that the end result is very rewarding.

Rotoscope

This project was extremely fun to do. Even though it took up all my time, I believe it was worth it. I really enjoyed working in Harmony and I enjoyed the challenge of incorporating of the detail of Iron Man's suit. It was challenging to keep the detail consistent but was able to be fixed easily by playing it repeatedly.

Stop Motion- Balloons

This project was pretty fun. Even though it was a bit laborious, I believe that the end result turned out better than expected. It was challenging to move all the balloons at once and to remember which ones we moved and which one we did not. So, my partner and I was very thankful for the ghosting affect. I was inspired by my favorite Disney movie Up for the balloon idea. Our goal was to make a smooth stop motion that was limited in glitches or errors.
